The Archeological Civic Museum of Sarteano is located on the ground floor of the XVIth century Palazzo Gabrielli and it extends through six rooms, one of which is located in the suggestive underground spaces of the building. The building is on one of the streets of the historical center, very close to the town’s main square, in front of Palazzo Piccolomini. The Museum carries out didactic and research activities: during the summer it organizes a series of diggings in the sites of the Etruscan necropolis , conceded by the Town Hall and carried out thanks to the voluntary workmanship of the local Archeological Group Etruria; the same people participate to the restoration courses, organized inside the Museum and carried out by restorers of the Archeological Supervision of Tuscany. Lectures on archeological matters take place periodically. During the entire year, guided tours for groups and particularly for students are organized. Two archeological routes, set up by the Town Hall, to visit the necropolis in Pianacce and Mulin Canale are connected to the Museum visit. These sites are endowed with street signs and explaining panels. Anyway, there are at least two free guided tours a month.
