DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
The fresco depicts the Virgin Mary in majesty, seated on a throne raised on a step. The Queen of Heaven is nursing her Son, whom she holds in her lap. He has just stopped, as if surprised by the unexpected arrival of the viewer, toward whom, like the Virgin, he now directs his gaze. On the sides, the saints, all four particularly venerated in the Siena area, represent a sort of synthesis of the celestial court where the Virgin reigns. They are easily identifiable both by the frequency of their appearances and by their particularly pronounced symbolic attributes.
