Attracco di barche a fondo piatto

Lake Chiusi as the adjacent lake Montepulciano, constitute what remains of a very vast laky and marshy area that went from Arezzo to Orvieto. Many centuries of reclamation have modified the primitive aspect of the area to such an extent, that the water that was once collected by the stream Chiannis ( from which the name (Val di Chiana) that channelled it in the Paglia River, that in turn cast it in the Tiber River, presently flows into the Arno River. In Lake Chiusi, unfortunately open to hunting, the W.W.F. has created a small oasis (8 hectares) to preserve the largest heron population in central Italy, where the Purple Heron, the White Heron, the Squacco Heron, the Black Crowned Night Heron and the Bittern live and procreate in about 300 nests. The water of lake Chiusi is so clean that it has become the main source of drinkable water supply for the town of Chiusi.
