The Church of San Carlo Borromeo is located within the complex of the Conservatory of San Carlo, an ancient Pienza institution founded in the 17th century and expanded over the centuries.

The church features a simple façade and a truly evocative interior. It houses an extraordinarily important work of art: the altarpiece by Francesco Rustici, also known as "il Rustichino," depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints Charles Borromeo, Francis, Clare, Catherine of Siena, and John the Baptist.

The Church of San Carlo Borromeo reopened to the public in December 2024 after necessary safety work, restoring one of the most fascinating places of worship in the city of Pienza to its original splendor.
