The Chorale books of Cathedral of Chiusi were saved by bishop Pannilini from the Napoleonic suppression of the Monastry of Monteoliveto Maggiore, and handed over to the Chapter of the Cathedral o Chiusi in 1810. The book stemming from this provenance are 21 in number because the one marked "G" is missing. In the museum is also found a book marked "Z", containing miniature from the 18th century, the origin of whichis unknown. It was the Bolognese abbot, Francesco della Ringhiera, who, on occasion of the latter's re-election as Abbot General in 1456, commissioned the Olivetian monk, Alessandro da Sesto, to pen the Chorales for the Archcoenoby. Brother Alessandro, "scriptor" of the highest level, worked on the compilation of all of the codices except one, attributed to the calligrapher Ambrogio. The pen-and-ink miniature, wich reveals an exceptional creative talent, was the work of Olivetan monks; the style they elaborate i so personal that is has come to be identified as "the olivetian Style" Called upon to realize the miniatures were Sano di Pietro, Bartolomeo Varnucci, Liberale da Verona, Venturino Mercati, Girolamo da Cremona and Francesco di Giorgio Martini.
