It dates back to early XIIIth century. It was restored and enlarged in the XVIth century. It was promoted to Cathedral in 1638. The interior was restructured in 1787. In 1955, it was declared Marian Sanctuary. It has a Renaissance facade and a Latin cross plan. The lateral altars are enriched with “The Baptism of Jesus” and “The Entrance of Jesus in Jerusalem”, by Sienese School, dated XVIIIth century . Behind the major altar, there’s a wooden choir by a Sienese artisan shop (1513). In the chapel of the Holy Sacrament, there are the beautiful tabernacle and the marble ciborium by Lorenzo di Mariano, nicknamed Marrina (1514) . In the chapel of Buonconsiglio (Good Counsel), there’s a “Madonna of Buonconsiglio” by Francesco Bonichi (1761), and on the sides, there are two arched panels with “The Messenger Angel” and “The Annunciation” by Girolamo del Pacchia (about 1514).It dates back to early XIIIth century.
